Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. [SAN DIEGO] (NASDAQ: OREX) announced the promotions of Thomas Cannell to Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and President of Global Commercial Products. Cannell joined Orexigen as Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer in 2015 after 27 years at Merck & Co. Inc. where he held senior leadership positions in global commercialization, consumer marketing, and sales operations and management. At Merck, Cannell’s assignments included President of Merck Canada (2012 – 2014) and Head of Marketing and Strategy for MSD Japan (2010-2012). Earlier he served in general manager roles for a U.S. sales division, as leader of a Merck business unit, and as General Manager, New Commercial Model, U.S.
The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) [LA JOLLA, Calif. and JUPITER, Fla.] has named Richard A. King, formerly president and CEO of AcelRx Pharmaceuticals, Inc., as chief operating officer. King has held senior leadership roles in a variety of life sciences commercial operations. Most recently, from 2010 to 2015, he led AcelRx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to AcelRx, King held positions as president and general manager of Tercica, Inc., and as executive vice president of commercial operations at Kos Pharmaceuticals, Inc. King has also worked for Lederle Laboratories, SmithKline Beecham and Solvay Pharmaceuticals. Douglas Bingham, who previously held the role of TSRI’s chief operating officer, will continue to serve as part of the executive management team as executive vice president and general counsel.
NOVA [GLENDALE, Calif.] announced that Graham Younger will be joining the Company as President & Chief Operating Officer later this month. Mr. Younger joins NOVA from Box, Inc., where he has served as Executive Vice President, Worldwide Field Operations since February 2014. Early in his career, Mr. Younger worked for IBM and Oracle Corporation in a variety of sales and management positions in London, England before moving to the U.S. in 2005 with Cramer Systems. Following the acquisition of Cramer by Amdocs in 2006, Mr. Younger rejoined Oracle as Global Vice President of Sales. In 2011, Mr. Younger joined SuccesssFactors, prior to the Company’s $3.4B acquisition by SAP. As Senior Vice President & General Manager, he was responsible for over $1B in global SaaS & Human Capital Management software revenues, before joining Box, Inc as Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations in February 2014.
TMI Trust Company (TMI) [FT. WORTH, Texas] announced the addition of Dennis D. Gillespie as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Gillespie joined TMI on January 1, 2016 following 13-year careers with Deutsche Bank National Trust Company where Mr. Gillespie was a Director and regional manager of corporate trust.
Aventura [DENVER] announced the appointment of Patrick Flynn as Chief Operating Officer. Flynn’s most recent role was Chief Technology Officer for Phytel. In 2015, Phytel was acquired by IBM as part of the Watson Health line of business. Before Phytel, Flynn founded and led Clear IT Leadership. Flynn also served as Senior Vice President of Technology and Chief Technology Officer for Getty Images, as well as Vice President and Chief Information officer at PACCAR, Inc.
MemorialCare Medical Foundation [ORANGE and LOS ANGELES Counties, Calif.] the physician group division of MemorialCare Health System, announced that Laurie Sicaeros has been named Chief Operating Officer. She will continue to serve as MemorialCare Health System Vice President of Physician Integration, Prior to joining MemorialCare, Sicaeros was a management consultant to multidisciplinary physician practices in Orange County.
